A huge 13ft python was caught in a family's roof in Indonesia.

The large beast sparked panic when the residents heard it shuffling on the ceiling of their home in East Jakarta on January 12.

They called Ciracas District Sector Fire and Rescue Department to get rid of the snake, which had slithered into a cramped corner above the ceiling panels.

Footage shows the officers tearing down parts of the ceiling to locate the python, which plunged to the floor when the firefighters removed a wooden board on which it was coiled.

The massive reptile was sealed inside a sack and hauled out of the property.

A firefighter said: 'The homeowner initially suspected there was a strange sound on the roof of the house, after checking it turned out there was a large python.

'The evacuation process took around 12 minutes. We have secured the snake and then we will release it into its habitat.'

The reticulated python is found throughout Southeast Asia, where they live in forests, swamps, canals and even in cities, causing them to come into conflict with humans. The species is one of the world's largest snakes and can eat humans, cats, dogs, birds, rats and other snakes.
