A huge centipede terrified a family when it crawled across the floor while they were relaxing in the living room.

The venomous insect, which was at least six inches long, was seen scurrying into the room from the kitchen when it sparked panic as the adults spotted it in Bangkok, Thailand, on November 25.

CCTV footage shows the grandmother, Nucharee Kaewampan, and her daughter springing up the sofa when they found the bug passed by their feet.

The grandmother went to get a broom to catch the centipede with while a mother, Alisa Kaewampan, carried a toddler to safety, and her husband, Kitsada, safeguarded their pet Chihuahua named Daft.

Mother Alisa Kaewampan said: ‘We were spending time together at home when the big centipede came out of nowhere.'

The frantic grandmother used the broom to catch the centipede. No one was bitten by and everyone was safe.

Most centipedes are venomous. While the severity of their venom varies greatly depending on the species, they all possess venom glands at the base of their first pair of legs, which are modified into pincers called forcipules or toxicognaths.
