A chef has left TikTok users divided after creating a rather unusual burger – using a 45lb shark.

Danny Kim, a content creator, has hit the headlines in the past for challenging chefs to re-create meals from takeaways.

His latest challenge, however, has proved controversial, with him presenting a television chef with the huge dead mammal.

Chef Marc Murphy, who has appeared on TV shows including Guy’s Ranch Kitchen and Chopped, was asked to create a dish using the dead shark in a TikTok which has gone viral with 4.5 million views.

In the post, the 54-year-old chef was asked by Kim to make him something to eat with the shark, to which Murphy says: “Come on, let’s go cook.”

He shows the carcass in the kitchen, with the head still intact, before proceeding to butcher it.

After removing the fin and slicing it open, he seasons some flour and bread crumbs, and makes a sauce to go with the meat.

He fries up slices of the meat, coated in the flour and bread crumbs, and says it will be “much better than a Filet O Fish’.

He assembles the shark burgers with lettuce, the homemade tartare sauce, red onion and tomato slices.

Murphy says: “Voila! Our shark fish sandwiches are ready to go.”

The duo tests the dish, and Kim says: “Why is that so good?

“It’s the best fish sandwich I’ve ever had – perfect.”

While Kim, from Maryland, US, was impressed, the clip proved controversial with TikTok viewers, after garnering 348,000 likes.

While it is not illegal to eat sharks in the US, the video left users divided in the comments section.

One critic asked: “Bro why you do that to the sharks?”

“I can’t watch this. So sad,” another person commented.

Someone else said: “NOOO WHAT ARE YOU DOING?”

“Questions doesn't shark have lots of mercury? is it safe to eat?” one user asked.

Another person added: “Who goes ‘ya we trying shark today’?”

“Why sharks though aren’t they close to being endangered?” pointed out another viewer.

Another critic said: “I’m gonna cry.”

“He really just brought an entire shark,” said someone else.

“Nahh that’s sad,” another person commented.

But other users were intrigued by the bizarre dish.

One person said: “I’ve always wanted to try shark, what is the closest flavor?”

“Love it!” said another fan.

Another user dubbed it a “filet o shark”.

“I once ate a baby shark it was so gooood,” said someone else. [sic]

“Damn that looks good,” said another fan.

“Looks nice,” added another user.

Jam Press has contacted Marc Murphy for comment.
