An electric bike skidded and fell when it overtook another driver on an icy road in China.

Footage shows the motorist joining the others on the right lane, but his foot slipped when he tried to balance with it on the ground while slowing down in Hebei, China, on December 11.

He was not seriously hurt and immediately returned to the road afterwards.

E-bikes have surged in popularity in China in recent years. In 2022, more than 50 million e-bikes were sold, accounting for over 90 per cent of the global e-bike market. There are now estimated to be over 350 million e-bikes in China, which is more than one for every five people.

However, there are safety concerns over traffic accidents, battery safety, lack of regulation and the inexperience of some riders - like the man seen in the video.
