"On Monday evening, the Israeli cabinet passed an amended 2024 state budget, adding about 15 billion U.S. dollars (55 billion shekels) of extra spending, including money for defense and compensation for those impacted by the war."
The original budget for 2024 was approved by parliament in May 2023, but the conflict with Hamas that began last October prompted a new budget to cover the higher costs.
The ministry said all ministries' budgets were cut because of the high military spending.
The total updated budget of 582 billion shekels (about 155 billion U.S. dollars) also includes a 9-billion-shekel (2.4 billion dollars) grant plan for military reservists, security and protection for localities, support for the mental health system, and rehabilitation of southern areas neighboring Gaza.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian death toll in Gaza since the beginning of the conflict has exceeded 24,100, the Gaza-based Health Ministry said on Monday.
The Israeli bombing has rendered more than 70 percent of the northern Gaza Strip uninhabitable.

"This is the first missile launched by Israeli planes on the house of a family in the Al-Bassa area of Deir Al-Balah.
This was a warning missile that didn't explode.
The Israeli warplanes then launched a war missile, which led to the destruction of the family's house, the death of the daughter of the house's owner and one person missing, many injuries, and the destruction of two other houses in this residential area. This is the hole caused by the destruction."
