This is the nerve-wracking moment a huge python poked its head out of a family's toilet.

Footage shows the reptile emerging from the u-bend inside the bathroom in Bangkok, Thailand, on January 4.

It appeared to be waiting for a suitable time to slither out into the home but the resident spotted the snake first and sent it back into the pipework.

Supapan Yonkhonburi, the house owner, said she was sitting on the toilet while playing on her phone. However, when she stood up and was about to flush, she noticed the snake emerging and then retreating into the hole.

She said: 'I haven't seen the python again since that day. If it appears again, I'll call the wildlife emergency number and ask for someone to come and catch it.

'If it had bitten my legs I don't know what I would have done. Normally I'm not too scared of snakes but that one looked really big.'

The reticulated python is found throughout Southeast Asia, where they live in forests, swamps, canals and even in cities, causing them to come into conflict with humans. The species is one of the world's largest snakes and can eat humans, cats, dogs, birds, rats and other snakes.
