Israeli forces and Hezbollah in Lebanon have traded fire across the borders since Oct. 8, 2023, after the beginning of the Israel-Hamas conflict the previous day.
According to official Israeli figures, nine Israeli troops and six civilians have been killed by fire from Lebanon, while Hezbollah claims that 162 of their fighters were killed since the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict.
However, some residents from the border town of Ramia have chosen to remain steadfast in their hometown amid airstrikes instead of facing displacement as they have no other places to move.
SOUNDBITE (Arabic): HUSSEIN BOJOK, Resident of the border town of Ramia
"We cannot leave our hometown because in the north the cost of living is very high and we do not want to be treated as displaced and find a public school to take as refugees where we have to wait in line for the use of the toilet. So we decided to stay in our village with our children and we are surviving here."
