Secretary-General of the Arab League (AL) Ahmed Aboul Gheit on Saturday met with visiting Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in Cairo.
Gheit reiterated his support for Somalia in safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity during the meeting.
The visit by the Somali president came at a time of heightened tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia.
Ethiopia and Somaliland, a self-declared region of Somalia, signed an agreement allowing Ethiopia access to the Red Sea in return for its recognition of Somaliland as an independent state.
Somalia described this as a violation of its territorial integrity.
