SOUNDBITE (Chinese): CAI YUPING, Inheritor of Daur folk song
"My name is Cai Yuping. I come from Tacheng City, and I am the inheritor of traditional folk song of the Daur ethnic group. I was greatly influenced by my mother when I was little. I still remember my mother would start to dance when my father played the harmonica. I would join in. So this is a hobby that I've had since I was little.
We are now in the inheritance center. Come on. In the early 1980s, we had pioneers who summarized Daur folk songs. They collected 70 to 80 pieces. This is the study group we set up for Daur folk song learners. We would select some of the songs and add music and accompaniment to them. We have many excellent Daur singers. They will perform and sing these songs through our traditional ways of singing and dancing.
We Daur people have been living in Xinjiang for over two hundred years. Our language, customs, and culture have been preserved and passed down entirely."
