Giant honeybees made an incredible 'shimmering wave' to ward off predators from their nest.

The insects were gathered in a large clump attached to a mango tree branch when resident Yong Wimon spotted them at the back of his home in Nakhon Ratchasima province, northeast Thailand, on January 18.

Footage shows the mesmerising sight as the bugs created ripples across their open nest on the tree.

Yong said: ‘I have seen that kind of bee wave before, but it was the biggest one I have witnessed so far.'

Giant honeybees, famous for their open nests, defend themselves by creating synchronized waves of abdominal flips – a shimmering spectacle that deters predators like hornets.
