Locals carried a pet dog to safety by paddling a makeshift raft through a flooded street in the Philippines.

Footage captured by Ralph Asoque shows a group of men floating through the deluge with the relieved canine in the Jade Valley area of Tigatto in Davao City on January 19.

One local pulled the raft with a rope while the other man paddled with long sticks.

Ralph said: 'There was no way they would leave the pooch behind. He joined their raft and was safe from the water.'

The country is prone to flooding due to the intensity of typhoons and poor state infrastructure.

The flood seen in the video was caused by a shear line, which happens when cold and warm winds converge with one another, causing thunder and rain.
