Astonishing footage shows how a plucky pet dog that was stuck on the tracks outran an oncoming train before bounding away to safety.

The black pooch was sniffing around the railroad looking for food when the locomotive suddenly approached behind him in Bangkok, Thailand on June 21.

But instead of moving out of the train's path, the pooch jumped across the railway line in the wrong direction and found itself in front of the vehicle, running for its life.

Video taken by a trainspotter shows the black dog sprinting in front of the train with only around 3ft between its tail and the front of the vehicle.

The horns were sounded multiple times as the driver battled to slow down while they both hurtled along the tracks.

It gave the pooch a chance to jump to the side and recover at the city's Bang Sue station.

The filmer said: 'I was afraid the dog would be run over. The train was so close but the dog kept on running. It was a relief that he made it away safety.'
