State seismological agency PHIVOLCS said in its January 22 bulletin that one volcanic earthquake occurred as gas columns reaching up to 900 metres tall were recorded at the volcano.

Residents were warned to be vigilant of possible steam explosions, ashfall, and gas emissions.

Taal Volcano sparked alarm last Thursday, January 18, as it belched 12,063 metric tonnes of sulfur dioxide amid an 'upwelling of hot volcanic fluids'.
