Taal Volcano spewed gas as state volcanologists recorded high sulfur dioxide emissions anew.

Footage shows the volcano belching a small cloud of smoke in Batangas province in the Philippines on January 23.

Philippine seismological agency PHIVOLCS said there were no volcanic earthquakes, but sulfur dioxide levels shot up to 12,591 metric tonnes over the past 24 hours.

The level was lower than the 12,685 metric tonnes recorded on January 4 - the highest so far this year.

Residents were warned to be vigilant of possible steam explosions, ashfall, and gas emissions.

The Philippines is an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands inside the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where the majority of Earth's volcano eruptions and earthquakes happen.
