Police hunt Indian fugitive over murder and dismemberment of Burmese man in Thailand
Thai police are hunting an Indian fugitive suspected of murdering and dismembering one of his Burmese workers.
Pragadeesh Kumar Sundaravel, 22, allegedly recruited five Myanmar nationals and rented a three-storey building for them to stay in Bangkok, Thailand.
He then took them to look for jobs on January 19 morning, leaving the victim A Sai Kyi, 35, alone.
However, when the workers returned late in the evening to retrieve their belongings, they found the building locked, with A Sai Kyi unreachable by phone.
The landlady finally allowed them to break inside, but they were shocked to find their friend had been chopped into pieces and stored inside a freezer on the third floor.
Officers in the Tha Kham district of the capital received a report and arrived at the scene to investigate at 3 pm on January 21.
They believe Kumar had murdered the Burmese man, as he was allegedly seen on shopping mall CCTV footage buying the freezer in which the victim was stored.
They found A Sai Kyi's mutilated body stuffed inside the brand-new freezer. They also discovered a chainsaw and two large bloodstained knives hidden inside a cardboard box in a nearby room.
Blood smears were also found inside a bathroom where the victim was believed to have been hacked into pieces.
A Sai Kyi's friend Mya Aye, 35, said the Burmese workers had paid Kumar 22,000 THB (620 USD) each to process their documents and help them apply for jobs in Bangkok.
He said he managed to contact Kumar via video call on the evening of A Sai Kyi's death, but the Indian appeared 'sweaty and anxious' before hanging up.
Meanwhile, the landlady Kanyarat Pengjam, 33, claimed she had seen Kumar driving a red MG car and trying to park inside the building. However, he fled when he struck the gates with a crash.
Police Major General Noppasin Poolsawat, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said police are now hunting Kumar, who left Thailand for Chennai, India, on January 20.
Cops are now coordinating with Indian authorities to arrest Kumar and return him to Thailand.
Police Major General Noppasin said: 'The four other Burmese workers will be questioned regarding their relationship with the victim and the legality of their entry into the country. '
He added the motive for the murder may have stemmed from a row about the recruitment fee, or another argument about 'issues regarding homosexuality'.
