Glass dining table suddenly explodes
A glass dining table suddenly exploded in a home.
CCTV footage shows the furniture with 10-mm thick glass shattering into hundreds of pieces in Bangkok, Thailand, on February 5.
Fortunately, the residents were not in the room when it happened, so no one was hurt.
Despite its seemingly solid appearance, glass can be fragile and prone to sudden shattering. This can be due to various factors that build up stress and eventually overwhelm the material's ability to withstand it.
Sudden changes in temperature can also cause expansions and contractions within the glass structure, especially for uneven heating or cooling, where different parts of the glass expand or contract at different rates. This creates internal stresses that can lead to cracks and, ultimately, shattering.
