A mum named her child after a character in her favourite teen TV show - and said "it would be hard to picture him as anything else"."

Emily Colborne, 31, named her son, Cohen, two, after a character in the US teen drama The OC.

The character, Seth Cohen, is the main character of the show - and Emily's favourite.

The show - which ran on Fox between 2003 and 2007 - was Emily's favourite growing up and she watched it "religiously"."

In a tribute to her favourite programme, when her twin sons, Cohen and Mason, were born in December 2021, she knew straight away what one would be called.

Emily, an engineer, from New Brunswick, Canada, said: ''He definitely fits the name Cohen.

"I mean kids grow into their name no matter what it is, but it would be hard to picture him as anything else."

''There is so much advice that a parent can give but ultimately just trust your gut, you know what's best for you and your kid'."

Emily said the show was "her whole life" in high school - influencing her music taste and fashion sense."

But it stuck with her and years on, she wanted to name her son in its honour after she found out she was pregnant in 2021.

Emily said her family wasn't surprised when she suggested the name Cohen, as they always knew how much she loved the show.

She said strangers also love her choice.

Emily said: "Overwhelming people were like 'I love this name'. "

"A lot also named their kids after teen dramas."

But her partner, Sam, 32, a case manager, took a lot more convincing.

Emily said: "He was a bit sceptical about it. He loves it."

"It really fits Cohen."

Emily says Cohen is not like the character yet - but he's too young to tell.

She said: "Seth Cohen - he's really nerdy, dorky - kind of like myself and my husband."

''He’s like a big teddy bear, very caring and very cuddly.

"He likes to joke around as much as a two-year-old can joke around.'"

"I am actually an only child, so I didn’t have siblings growing up."

"So watching all of my boys grow up together and become best friends has been really cool and I love it.''"

Cohen's twin Mason and older sibling, Atlas, four, are not named after TV characters - but were both monikers Emily and Sam loved.

Emily said: "Mason is just a really nice name."
