Russian military transport plane crashes in region bordering Ukraine
A Russian Ilyushin-76 military transport plane has crashed in the Belgorod region bordering Ukraine.
Footage shared by SOTA News, an independent news outlet in Russia, on January 24 shows the moment the aircraft plummeted to the ground near the village of Yablonovo.
A large ball of flames can be seen in the distance shortly after the plane impacted the ground.
Russia's ministry of defence claimed 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war were onboard the plane heading to the region for a prisoner exchange.
Ukraine's national outlet Pravda, citing sources in the Ukrainian military, claimed the aircraft was carrying S-300 anti-aircraft missiles when it was shot down.
Details about those onboard have not been independently verified.
