The Andean security network will operate "24 hours a day, 7 days a week" from the first quarter of this year, according to an agreement signed by the Andean Community of Nations (CAN) at the end of an extraordinary meeting of ministers in Lima.

This cooperation and intelligence agency will provide and receive "information from other countries on the activity of criminal groups that have, or may have, transnational operations," says the commitment of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.

Likewise, it will alert "immediately, about relevant acts perpetrated" by these organizations, even if "they have been committed within a single participating country.".

Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld welcomed the agreement, stressing that it combats the "fear" that took over countries in their fight against organized crime.

"We have made history; we have written a new chapter in the CAN," said the head of Quito’s diplomacy.

"Fear paralyzes countries. We have seen that the fear of civil society paralyzed Ecuador, paralyzed investments, increased unemployment, and increased migration," said the official.
