An elephant calf gave its mother a fright after it slipped and almost fell into a watering hole in Kruger National Park.

The filmer said: "Watching baby elephants out in the African wild, while on safari, is always a memorable and entertaining experience. Seeing how playful and sometimes clumsy these adorable creatures can be is a sight that will put a smile on the face of any safari-goer.

"During a recent safari in the Kruger National Park, we came across a small herd of elephants busy drinking water at a small watering hole. Immediately a baby elephant and its mother drew my attention.

"The mother and her baby were drinking water. While the mother was standing on the side of the watering hole, the baby elephant thought it was better to stand inside the water.

"Suddenly, without warning, the baby elephant just slipped and fell onto its side into the water followed by a big splash. This quick and sudden fall into the water gave me and the mother elephant a big fright as it was so unexpected.

"I didn’t make a noise when I got the fright, but the mother elephant uttered a loud trumpeting sound just as her calf fell. The mother elephant looked a little distressed and confused by what happened while her calf just stood still and silent.

"After standing around a little longer, the elephants became relaxed again and the baby elephant decided it was better to drink some milk from its mother instead of going back into the water."
