Coast Guard Rescues 20 Individuals from Lake Erie Ice Floe Near Catawba Island, USA

In a daring rescue operation on Monday, 22.01. the Coast Guard successfully saved 20 individuals stranded on an ice floe in Lake Erie, approximately half a mile off the shore near Catawba Island, Ohio. Responding to an initial report of over 20 people on the ice floe, Coast Guard crews from Station Marblehead and Air Station Detroit collaborated with the Put-in-Bay Fire Department and Ottowa County Sheriff’s Office.
At the scene, the Coast Guard rescued nine individuals, while the Put-in-Bay Fire Department managed to save four more. Additionally, seven people executed self-rescue using their airboat.
