Wild animals always face shortage of food in winters. Staff of a national nature reserve in northwest China's Xinjiang has lent their helping hands to wildlife.

Xinjiang Ganjiahu Sacsaoul Forest National Nature Reserve Management Bureau Wusu Branch covers a woodland area of about 400,000 mu (about 26,700 hectares), with over 170 species of wildlife, including black storks, Eurasian lynx, white swans, wapiti and others.

The staff has purchased nearly 1,000 bundles of alfalfa grass and 3 tons of corn for wildlife recently.

SOUNDBITE (Chinese): ADELIHAN MULATI, Deputy Chief of Resource Conservation and Forestry Department of Xinjiang Ganjiahu Sacsaoul Forest National Nature Reserve Management Bureau Wusu Branch
"In recent years, due to enhanced protection of wildlife in the reserve, the numbers of wildlife such as wapiti, goitered gazelle and others have increased significantly. Through doing research in areas where wildlife frequently appears, the reserve scientifically set up feeding points and installed infrared cameras to closely observe and record in detail the feeding of wildlife so as to learn about the effect of the placement of forage. In the future, the reserve will make full use of the remote monitoring equipment to continue to enhance wildlife protection and patrol. Meanwhile, the whole society should pay attention to and take active action to protect the ecological environment and care for wildlife."
