STORYLINE:
China's Spring Festival travel rush kicked off on Friday. The travel and tourism sectors are expected to see record-breaking journeys within the next 40 days, adding new steam to the country's economic recovery.
The Spring Festival, which falls on Feb. 10 this year, is China's most important festival for family reunions.
Hundreds of millions of Chinese are swarming train stations, airports, and coach terminals across the country.
9 billion passenger trips are expected during the Spring Festival travel rush, according to the Ministry of Transport.
With record demand for travel, this year's Spring Festival holiday is poised to become the most vibrant and prosperous in recent years.
It will serve as an important window for observing vitality and consumer confidence levels in the world's second-largest economy.
As demand for energy, daily supplies, and agricultural products surges, a special work team has been established by the country's transport ministry to cope with pressure on logistics and work safety.
The work team is committed to strengthening the monitoring of and coordination among different transportation sectors such as railway, highway, waterway and civil aviation, and making sure the transport capacity is sufficient to meet demands.
