STORYLINE:

Palestinians launched their own charitable initiatives to provide food for displaced locals to help them keep afloat amid the ongoing conflict between Hamas and the Israeli army.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Arabic): MOHAMMED AL-HAJ, Palestinian chef in Gaza
"We cook food and provide it free of charge to displaced families in order to alleviate their suffering, especially since the army forced them to flee without taking anything with them. We get the money from donors in Gaza or even outside Gaza to do it."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Arabic): Displaced resident in Gaza
"I came to get food for orphaned children and nephews in my family. I appeal to the United Nations to provide funding for us in Gaza, especially the displaced people who do not have any necessities of life. We can't live on bread alone. Such initiatives are good, but they can't meet all the displaced people's needs in the Strip."

Since Oct. 7, Hamas has been involved in a bloody conflict with Israel after it launched a surprise attack on Israel, firing thousands of rockets and sending its forces into Israeli territory.

In response, Israel declared a state of war on Gaza, carrying out massive airstrikes and punitive measures.

The ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict has so far killed over 26,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and more than 1,200 people in Israel.
