"My name is Sylvester Kaierua. I am 27 years old."
Sylvester Kaierua is one of the first local employees working for the redevelopment project of Aiwo Harbor, Nauru's largest harbor.
The project, contracted by a Chinese company, was launched in 2019.
Earning twice as much as when he was working as a housekeeper, Kaierua said he now has greater ability to take care of his three children.

I think my salaries are enough to use at home, to provide everything."
The project includes harbor dredging, as well as the construction of a new port, a desalination system and a container yard.
The five-year project has also brought new technologies and job opportunities to the island country, promoting local economy by expanding its connectivity with the rest of the world.
