A wild opossum bit a policeman as he tried to rescue it from a backyard.

Footage shows the marsupial on the corner of the property's wooden fence when Officer Garbani of the Moore Police Department in Moore, Oklahoma found it on January 27.

He said in the video as he pointed a flashlight at the animal: ‘Hey buddy, it's okay. You're okay, don't be mean. Come on.'

The officer slowly held his right arm to reach the opossum and said: ‘Come on, no, no, don't do that,' as it hissed on him.

But the opossum still leapt up and bit the police despite warnings. Officer Garbani said in the video: ‘Aw, it bit me.' He was wearing gloves and was not seriously hurt from the bite.

He said: ‘It ain't my first time catching opossums around here.'

In September, the police, together with his partner Officer Keller, caught an opossum that entered through the doggie door of a home.
