Footage shows gas escaping from the vents of Taal Volcano in Batangas province, the Philippines on January 29.

Philippine seismological agency PHIVOLCS said there were no volcanic earthquakes recorded while smoke plumes rose up to 900 metres high.

The volcano had emitted 15,145 tonnes per day of sulfur dioxide as of January 25, the agency said.

Residents were warned to be vigilant of possible steam explosions, ashfall, and gas emissions.

The Philippines is an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands inside the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where the majority of Earth's volcano eruptions and earthquakes happen.
