STORYLINE:

Thousands of Ugandans and the Chinese community on Sunday thronged Kololo Independence Grounds in the Ugandan capital of Kampala for a "temple fair," a traditional cultural event that features Chinese folk art, to celebrate the upcoming Year of the Dragon.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): ZHANG LIZHONG, Chinese Ambassador to Uganda
"Today we have so many programs like art shows. We have seen the joint work by artists from China and Uganda. They are working together to promote this relationship. In the meantime, we have seen so many different cuisines provided by the Chinese communities. So many Ugandans come here. It's also a good occasion to exchange culture to enhance the understanding between us. So I think it is a celebration of both the Chinese community and the Ugandan people."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): BRUNO RUGANZU, Ugandan painter
"Art goes beyond language. It goes beyond culture. Art is being alive, is being who we are. So by knowing who you are, and you know who I am, together we can bridge the gap and understand our differences and similarities for the harmony of the universe."

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): MAGNUS BRUUN RASMUSSEN, Visitor
"It is a great pleasure to come here today and visit this amazing festival and experience the culture of China here in Uganda. And I think it is a good opportunity to see the exchange of culture between two great nations. So we really appreciate it. I brought my family here today. We are looking at all these shows and the food and the culture. It's really, really nice. Some good friends."
