Police cordoned off an area in Surrey Quays, London, after a man with a crossbow was shot dead by officers on January 30.

A 30-year-old wearing body armour was trying to get into a property in Bywater Place, Southwark, and was shot dead by police officers.

Two residents from the targeted property sustained minor injuries but are otherwise unharmed.

A knife, a hatchet, and a sword were also found at the scene.

A cul-de-sac was closed off with a police cordon, and forensic officers after an incident which took place early this morning when a man in his 30s lost his life in a tense confrontation with armed officers in Southwark. Shortly after 4:55 am on Tuesday, 30 January, police responded to frantic calls from residents of Bywater Place, SE16, reporting a man armed with a crossbow attempting to force entry into their home.

The suspect, reportedly posed a threat to the occupants inside. Local officers arrived swiftly and attempted to negotiate, but upon facing further threats, armed units were promptly deployed.

Unfortunately, the situation escalated further. The man gained entry to the property, and during the course of the incident, a police firearm was discharged. Despite immediate first aid from both officers and paramedics, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Two residents from the targeted property sustained minor injuries but are otherwise unharmed. Inquiries are underway to inform the deceased's next of kin of this tragic outcome.
