This footage was filmed and produced 27 January 2024.

HMS Diamond, a Type 45 destroyer stationed in the Middle East, successfully thwarted its ninth drone threat, reinforcing its commitment to safeguarding merchant shipping. In the latest engagement on the 27th of January night, the ship's air warfare team detected a Houthi drone approaching the Gulf of Aden. Swift and well-practiced maneuvers ensued, culminating in the launch of the Sea Viper missile.

Lieutenant Commander Lee Funnell, the Air Warfare Officer, made the crucial decision to engage, and the missile, accelerating from 0 to Mach 4 in seconds, obliterated the threat. Despite the immense size of the 8,000-tonne destroyer, the crew executed their duties with precision.

Able Seaman Shearer Rickerby, responsible for tracking the threat, emphasized the professional collaboration that ensured the safety of both the ship's company and merchant vessels. Commander Peter Evans expressed pride in the team's resilience, affirming the multinational force's role in safeguarding civilian sailors and preserving commerce in the region.
