An elephant blocked a road at night to steal food from passing trucks in Thailand.

Footage taken from inside one of the vehicles shows the jumbo outside and obstructing the lane to prevent the drivers from going through in Chachoengsao province, Thailand on January 25 evening.

It used its trunk to sniff around the car and picked up sugar cane stalks that scattered along the path.

Driver Satien said: ‘On Road 3259, an elephant ambushed sugarcane trucks. Cars could only pass it if let them.'

As of 2023, there are an estimated 3,084-3,500 wild elephants in Thailand. The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still a fraction of the estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in Thailand at the beginning of the 20th century. The main threats to wild elephants in Thailand are habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and conflict with humans.
