This is the shocking moment an overflowing river swept away a hanging bridge as monsoon storms battered the southern Philippines.

Footage shows the infrastructure made of concrete and steel cables giving in from the strong currents in Davao de Oro province on January 31.

The gushing water carried the broken bridge away, leaving locals stranded during the severe weather.

The northeast monsoon and low-pressure area of weather affected the region which caused several national highways and bridges to be damaged while almost 500 individuals were evacuated to temporary shelters.
