STORYLINE:

Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Diliubu Village in China's Tianjin ahead of the Spring Festival. He visited people affected by last year's floods there and extended his sincere regards.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): DU HONGGANG, Villager
"President Xi first came to the kitchen. He lifted the lid of a wok and took a look inside it. Then he saw that the bedroom was very clean and said it was nice.
He opened the refrigerator and took a look, and asked if we had made special purchases for the Spring Festival. I replied that we had and were almost ready for the festival.
He inquired about my income for the year and my family's loss from the floods. I (told him that) the loss was less than 70,000 yuan (9,828 U.S. dollars). The government later provided (compensation and subsidies) and we also had insurance. Our life has been improving year by year."

"I stood next to the table, (preparing to) deliver vegetables to a residential community. President Xi came and asked where these vegetables were to be delivered and sold. I said they would be delivered to the community. He then asked, 'Is this Tianjin celery?' I replied, 'Yes, it is'."

"President Xi asked about the growth period of vegetables and said that the variety of vegetables we grow was rather abundant. He cares about us so much. We shall continue to cultivate and manage our land well so that it can produce fresh and high-quality vegetables."

"President Xi said that he visits rural areas every year ahead of the Spring Festival. This year, he came to Tianjin and visited our Diliubu Village in Xinkou Town.
Last year, the Dongdian flood storage and retention area was affected by flooding. President Xi came to inspect the post-disaster reconstruction efforts here.
The president said that only when the people are safe and live in harmony can the country be prosperous. When he said so, I felt deeply touched.
We bid farewell to President Xi as he boarded the car. We stood here for a long time and truly didn't want to leave. Even after the car turned the corner, we were still reluctant to lower our waving hands."
