This footage was filmed and produced in Summer 2018.

Alberta is the capital of Canada's energy and oil industry. Here it remains a polarizing issue for the residents of the province as they have financially benefited (and continue to) from the Oil and Gas Industry while trying to balance climate change and emission limits.

The recent cold spell in Canada did pose some concerns as the province came within hours of rolling brownouts and blackouts due to high electricity demands while people were being pressured to use alternative energies that were essentially useless during the deep freeze. Wind-powered turbines were not able to produce energy for the provincial grid as the owners had to shut them down days ahead of time in concern that the cold temperatures may have caused cracking and breakup of the massive blades which catch the wind and spin the turbines. Given short daylight hours and cloud coverage, solar was just as useless during the highest need times.

With the lack of energy to heat and power the province which sent out an emergency alert province-wide, in -40 and -50 degree weather, people are questioning the logic of purchasing electric vehicles to draw even more power for an already underperforming grid. The province did purchase surplus power from British Columbia as Washington State also purchased power from BC during the recent winter arctic cold weather.
