Ice and snow trigger massive tree branch breakages across Chinese city
Ice and snow triggered massive tree branch breakages across a city in central China.
The video was filmed in Wuhan City in Hubei Province on February 4.
The heavy snow and ice caused widespread breakage of trees and branches in the city, and numerous vehicles parked under trees suffered damage as branches fell on them.
The severe weather conditions also disrupted daily travel for residents, with roads blocked by broken trees. Pedestrians faced risks as they were struck by fractured branches, leading to fatal injuries for some who were rushed to the hospital but could not be saved.
On February 3rd, Hubei activated a level-three emergency response for meteorological disasters related to low-temperature rain, snow, and freezing.
The Wuhan Central Meteorological Observatory issued an orange alert for snowstorms, predicting heavy to severe snowfall in Wuhan and northern parts of Huanggang until 8:00 a.m. on February 4th. Some areas were expected to accumulate more than 10 centimetres of new snow, with localities experiencing over 15 centimetres. Wuhan was declared a region under intense snowfall.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
