Officers from the Indian Army rescued a pregnant woman who was in a critical condition and needed evacuation, in northern India's Jammu and Kashmir.

Footage from February 4 shows the officers carrying the woman named Safoora Begum on a stretcher.

Officers in Wilgam received a call after Begum needed to be evacuated but snow 2 to 3 feet deep had blocked the road.

She was eventually taken to Primary Health Centre where doctors are monitoring her condition.

This incident happened in Kupwara district of the union territory on February 4.

Visuals showed the army officials carrying the woman on a stretcher. Despite there being harsh weather conditions, the army officials were undeterred as they walked through the road completely covered with snow. According to a report, the army camp in Vilgam received a distress call from the Station House Officer (SHO) in Vilgam as well as the husband of the woman, named Mushtaq Ahmed Gogi. After learning about the condition of the pregnant woman, identified as Safoora Begum, the army officials rushed to the spot. The lady was in a critical condition and needed to be evacuated to a medical facility.

But it wasn't possible with the roads being completely blocked due to heavy snowfall from the past two days. Movement of vehicles was tough due to the snowfall and a medics team from the Army camp in Kakrosa reached the spot after walking on foot for around 7-8 kilometres. The path was covered with two-three feet of snow and the evacuation was carried out in the middle of the night. Despite the challenges, the woman was safely evacuated and taken to the Primary Health Centre in Vilgam. A police team was on standby at Vilgam and doctors ensured the woman was safe.
