STORYLINE:

Green energy supply has assisted the development of tea industry in remote areas of east China's Fujian Province.

In Junying village, the unstable power supply had long hindered the operation of tea factories.

In 2023, a set of photovoltaic power storage systems was put into use to enhance the interactive ability of the power grid in the area as well as provide a timely supply in the case of circuit failures during the peak period of electricity consumption.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): LI YANGJIE, State Grid Xiamen Power Supply Company
"This set of energy storage equipment is capable of storing 210 kWh of electricity, equivalent to installing a power bank."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): GAO QUANSHENG, Head of Hengli Tea Factory
"Our tea factory is most afraid of power failure, which used to frequently happen. And now there is no power failure anymore, which boosts both the quality and output of tea products and helps improve the development of the tea industry."

A photovoltaic power corridor covering an area of nearly 1,000 square meters has also been established to continuously provide clean electricity to support the tea industry in the village.

SOUNDBITE 3 (Chinese): LI YANGJIE, State Grid Xiamen Power Supply Company
"Under normal conditions of sunlight, this photovoltaic power corridor can generate 196,000 kWh of electricity annually. During its 25-year operation length, the project can provide more than 4.89 million kWh of green electricity for Junying village, which is equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions of 3,860 tonnes."
