On 5 February, a heavy fire broke out in an upstairs unit at Buffalo Creek Apartments located at 624 Buffalo Club Drive, Indianapolis, resulting in the displacement of 18 occupants from 12 units. The Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) responded to the emergency, with firefighters facing a challenging situation as the fire quickly spread through the attic space.

Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters encountered difficulties as a portion of the roof collapsed, prompting IFD Command to order the evacuation of all units within the structure for safety reasons. As a result of the incident, two IFD firefighters sustained minor injuries - one due to heat-related issues and the other from debris impact caused by the collapsing ceiling. Both firefighters were promptly transported to Methodist Hospital for treatment.

Additionally, two occupants of the apartment complex sustained slight injuries during the fire outbreak, with one individual being transported to Community Hospital South for medical attention. Despite the chaotic situation, several pets were successfully rescued by IFD personnel and safely returned to their owners.

The cause of the fire at Buffalo Creek Apartments remains under investigation by authorities as efforts are underway to assess the extent of damage and provide support to the displaced occupants.
