Harrowing drone footage captures the destruction caused by wildfires that have left 131 people dead in Chile.

Drone footage and on-the-ground shots show huge clouds of smoke billowing into the air and hundreds of charred homes in the Bio Bio region.

More than 300 people remain missing.

The death toll from forest fires in central Chile is 112, confirmed Chilean Deputy Interior Minister Manuel Monsalve on Sunday night. In addition, the official detailed that 40 igneous foci are in combat, 19 are under observation and 102 have already been controlled. In total, the hectares burned are more than 43 thousand and there are about 15 thousand homes affected by the flames.
Red alerts are still in effect for the regions of Valparaiso, O'Higgins, Maule, La Araucania and Los Lagos, the National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred) said in its latest report. Meanwhile, warnings for forest fires are yellow in the Metropolitan region, Maule and Biobio.
