Thousands of Chinese lanterns were lit up for a colourful lights festival in central Thailand.

Rows of traditional red-and-gold lanterns illuminated the Wat Dhammakatanyu Temple as locals celebrated the Pak Nam Colourful Lantern Festival in Samut Prakan ahead of the Chinese New Year.

Festival-goers can snack on street food from the many food stalls on the temple grounds while admiring the craftsmanship of the lanterns.

Lanterns ranging from classic Chinese style in auspicious colours to more modern versions depicting popular cartoon characters and Chinese deities are showcased at the festival.

There will also be concerts held from February 14 to 27, featuring local musicians like Monkan Kankoon, Pongsit Kamphee, Labanoon, Joey Phuwasit, and Lamyai Haithongkham.

The Pak Nam Colourful Lantern Festival will run at the Wat Dhammakatanyu Temple in Samut Prakan from January 20 to March 3.
