This footage shows firefighting crews in California clearing out a downed tree that fell on a vehicle and ripped off powerlines, trapping a young girl inside the car.

The incident reportedly took place in Saratoga, a city in Santa Clara County, at around 8:00 am on January 31.

Santa Clara County Fire said in a statement: 'Firefighters responded to Oak Place in Saratoga around 8:03 am on reports of a fallen tree with a patient trapped.

'Engine 73 and Rescue 73 crews extricated a female juvenile who was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.'

The fire department later added in an update: 'In anticipation of the storm we up-staffed with two additional Type 6 engines with two firefighters per unit. A two-person Vasona Crew is also ready for downed trees.

'They got to work first thing this morning, clearing a tree that fell on a vehicle and took down power lines in Saratoga.'
