A wild elephant family rummaged through a tourist's car at night.

The four jumbos belonging to a herd consisting of adults and their offspring wandered into a campsite's carpark at the Khao Yai National Park in Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand, on January 17.

Footage shows the animals sniffing behind the vehicles with their babies as the visitors watched from a distance with their flashlights.

Tourists called the park staff to come and help, but no one was reported hurt or damaged.

As of 2023, there are an estimated 3,084-3,500 wild elephants in Thailand. The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still a fraction of the estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in Thailand at the beginning of the 20th century. The main threats to wild elephants in Thailand are habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and conflict with humans.
