STORYLINE:

After the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations in 2019, China started to dispatch medical team including doctors and nurses to the Solomon Islands in early 2022. Currently, the second batch of Chinese medical team members are working here.

One of them has shared his stories in the Pacific island country.

"I'm Xu Ming, 32 years old. I'm an attending physician in the acupuncture department of the Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou Medical University. In March 2023, I arrived in the Solomon Islands with the second Chinese medical team to the country to carry out medical aid mission here."

"Good morning, everyone. It's time to do the treatment. And we want to thank you for coming here. We're very thankful for your trust in our acupuncture."

"The work of foreign aid doctors is never simple. There are various kinds of diseases, some of which I have never encountered in my country. In many cases, you should make quick and accurate decisions, because time is life, and only with efficient diagnosis and treatment can more patients be treated. In the process of diagnosis and treatment, I will also carry out some training and teaching sessions for local doctors, and teach acupuncture techniques in the clinical treatment process."

"I sincerely respect the local culture and customs, which is crucial for my work, because only when we understand the local patients' life and needs, and let them understand and accept us, can we provide better medical services for them.
The Chinese New Year is coming, and this year is particularly different for me, because I'm thousands of miles away from my family. On the occasion for family reunion, more than ever we think of our relatives far away. I miss my wife and kids when we talk online. But I must be here for my patients because it's the duty of a foreign aid doctor. Although facing challenges at work, I still have a sense of achievement every day."
