Engineering students made an LED lamp that counted numbers when activated by hands clapping.

Footage shows the youngsters testing their group project inside the classroom in Manila, the Philippines, on December 4.

One of them recited the instructions, and the two lads followed, with a lad turning it on and changing the setting while another clapped nearby.

The lamp showed numbers and occasionally letters when the clapping sounds were done.

Computer engineering student Rynefel Elopre said: ‘We call it the DIY seven-segment display. It is an Arduino-based project using light and sound sensors.'

Arduino boards are inexpensive but powerful mini-computers well-suited for controlling electronic DIY projects. The Arduino software is also easy for beginners to learn yet flexible enough for very advanced projects.
