Brave firefighters navigated icy terrain to rescue a stranded newborn in a frozen mountain in southern China.

The video was filmed in Changsha City in Hunan Province on February 6.

The temperatures plummeted below freezing on the daunting slopes of Mount Yingzhu in Changsha County. Mrs. Yu, who resides on the mountain, woke up to find no water flowing from her tap and no electricity to prepare milk for her one-month-old baby. Stepping outside, she was greeted by swirling snowflakes and roads covered in thick ice.

"Water and power are out! The roads are frozen! What about the baby?" Yu hastily dialled for help.

Upon receiving the distress call, Deputy Captain Rao Lele of the specialized firefighting rescue team in Fulin Town immediately rallied two firefighters and set out on foot towards the frozen Mount Yingzhu.

Battling through treacherous icy paths and fallen trees caused by days of freezing rain and snow, the trio exhibited astounding perseverance. As they neared the mountaintop, the slippery conditions forced them to crawl, using their bodies to increase friction and inch their way forward. Around 11 a.m., Rao Lele and his team finally arrived at Yu's doorstep.

Yu placed her baby in a stroller, padded it with extra blankets, and tightly wrapped it with a woollen blanket before handing it over to the firefighters. Two firefighters braced the stroller with their bodies while another secured it with a rope. Yu and her family strapped on homemade anti-skid mats and began their descent with the rescue team.

Rao explained that for safety during the descent, firefighters had to half-kneel in front of the stroller, gripping it firmly with both hands and carefully manoeuvring down step by step.

As they descended, fallen trees obstructed the path even further. After clearing branches with machetes, they cautiously navigated through narrow sections, lifting the stroller over obstacles.

By around 4 p.m. on the 6th, everyone reached safety at the foot of the mountain. Though the firefighters endured slips and falls, their clothes and hair coated in ice, the baby stroller remained secure under their watchful eyes. Mount Yingzhu stands at an altitude of over 500 metres, and throughout this rescue operation, the firefighters spent a total of 8 hours trekking 9 kilometres on foot.
