Residents flocked to Thailand's Chinatown today to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

Footage shows locals crowding around stalls to buy Chinese clothing, themed decorations, and Chinese cuisine in Bangkok.

Devotees also visited shrines to offer prayers for good fortune.

However, the highlight of Yaowarat's celebration was the 150-metre-long light arc in the shape of a Chinese dragon, where people gathered to take pictures and to ask for blessings.

Chinese New Year in 2024 falls on Saturday, February 10. The celebrations culminate with the Lantern Festival on February 24.

The event is celebrated widely across Thailand, where immigrants from China developed the country when the mighty Khmer Empire moved further south in the 15th century.
