The Colombian government and the guerrillas of the National Liberation Army (ELN) concluded a new round of talks in search of a peace agreement, in which they agreed to extend for another 180 days the bilateral ceasefire, in force since August 2023, and that if fulfilled would involve a commitment to renounce violence for a year.
The closure of the sixth round of negotiations that took place in Havana, Cuba, also left another historic agreement: the two delegations announced that the rebel group is committed for six months to suspend the "economic withholdings", how the ELN refers to the extortive kidnapping of the civilian population.
This is an unusual decision in the history of the uprising, and why the negotiations were in their greatest crisis in October, after the kidnapping of the father of footballer Luis Diaz, which generated the repudiation of civil society.

The video shows various shots of the signing of the agreement.
