STORYLINE:

This year's Tibetan New Year coincides with the Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year, which falls on Feb. 10.

The local markets in Lhasa, southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, witnessed an influx of tourists shopping and experiencing the vibe of the Tibetan festival.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): TASHI YANGZOM, Vendor
"As the Chinese New Year approaches, our business is getting better. Compared with previous years, this year there are more tourists of the Han ethnic group coming to visit the local market."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): LIANG HANWEN, Tourist
"I came from Liaoning Province, and I'm a tourist here. I want to experience the custom and tradition of Xizang. There are a lot of things I haven't seen before, and I feel so amazed. I bought a little yak handicraft at this stall. It looks so cute that I want to keep it as a souvenir."

Xinhua News Agency correspondents reporting from Lhasa, China.
