Around 3 p.m. on February 10, two citizens involved with the Riposte Alimentaire campaign threw soup on Claude Monet's painting "Printemps" at the Museum of Fine Arts in Lyon. They were wearing "Riposte Alimentaire" t-shirts.

"This spring will be the only one left if we don't react. What will our future artists paint? What will we dream of if there is no more spring?" shouted Ilona and Sophie, citizens engaged with the Riposte Alimentaire campaign.

Art is the most beautiful tribute to life. We love art. But our future artists will have nothing to paint on a burnt planet. They will no longer dream, in a world with multiple conflicts. We still have a choice. We must wake up now and resist. For the beauty of art, and for life.

Through this action, Riposte Alimentaire aims to raise awareness about the impending climate and social crisis. According to the Copernicus European Observatory, the planet experienced for the first time a warming of more than 1.5°C compared to the pre-industrial era over a period of 12 months.

This is partly due to our failing food and agricultural system.

Agriculture is responsible for 21% of national greenhouse gas emissions and greatly contributes to the deterioration of our biodiversity and the depletion of soils, due to the massive use of inputs. An apple now contains one hundred times less vitamin C than in 1950.

This system impoverishes farmers, while consumers have less and less access to healthy and abundant food.

At the same time, the profit margins of the agri-food industry reached a historic level of 48% last year, with their excessive profits estimated to be responsible for two-thirds of inflation.

According to a study conducted by the Foundation for Nature and Man (FNH), between 2001 and 2022, the share of the dairy farmer in the price of a conventional milk brick dropped by 4%, while that of agri-food industries increased by 64% and that of large distribution by 188%.

This is understandable when considering the imbalance in negotiations in favor of transformation and distribution companies.

Faced with this situation, Riposte Alimentaire's demand is as follows: "the integration of food into the general social security system."
