This is the breathtaking moment a herd of elephants walked together along a mountain road in Thailand.

Footage shows the family of six jumbos - three mothers and three juveniles - walking together as motorists slowly drove behind them from a distance in Nakhon Nayok province on November 28.

The animals kept the younger ones between them while the adults led and guarded the rear. Meanwhile, drivers had to wait until the family returned to the forest before they could pass through the path.

As of 2023, there are an estimated 3,084-3,500 wild elephants in Thailand. The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still a fraction of the estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in Thailand at the beginning of the 20th century. The main threats to wild elephants in Thailand are habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and conflict with humans.
